What Is the Gospel?
The just and gracious God of the universe looked upon hopelessly sinful people and sent His Son, Jesus Christ, God in the Flesh, to bear his wrath against sin on the cross and to show his power over sin in the resurrection so that all who turn from their sin and trust in him will be reconciled to God forever.
Who is God?
By His very nature, God is holy (Isaiah 43:15). His holiness is the most exalted of all His attributes, and sin is the very antithesis of that holiness. As a result, he despises sin (Psalm 5:4) and rightly judges the wicked (Romans 2:5-6).
Who are we?
By our very nature, we are sinful people who have rebelled against God (Romans 3:23). As a result, we have become separated from Him (Isaiah 59:2). Unable to do anything to reconcile ourselves to God (Romans 3:12), we are dead in our sin (Romans 6:23).
Who is Jesus?
While God is ultimately holy, He is also gracious (Titus 2:11). In His mercy He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live the life we could not live (1 John 3:5), to die the death that we deserve (1 Peter 2:24), and to forever conquer sin in the resurrection (Revelation 1:18).
What does this mean for you?
Christ’s death and resurrection changes everything. The knowledge of the gospel requires you to respond.
“Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man [Jesus] forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.” (Acts 13:38-39)
Christ died to pay the price for your sins against God. He was raised from the dead and broke the power of death and the grave. He offers you forgiveness and freedom. Receive Christ’s mercy and find rest for your soul.
